Presentation on Castro Valley Sports Foundation and Development of Stadium at <br />Castro Valley High School <br />Mayor Santos introduced the item to the committee. Martin Capron and Jennifer Oliver, <br />founding members of the Castro Valley Sports Foundation were introduced and made the <br />presentation to the committee. The campaign began in 2002 and the stadium was completed in <br />2007. There was a large grassroots effort throughout the school, parents, teachers, and larger <br />community. They became a nonprofit organization and raised approximately $300,000 in a <br />fairly short time. They desired a new facility for the students and others to use, but overall to <br />attract teachers and coaches, as well as send a message that it was a value in the community. A <br />$42 million bond was floated in 2005. Mayor Santos stated that this could be a possible concept <br />for replacing Burrell Field and suggested the presentation be taken to the Chamber of <br />Commerce. Mr. Capron stated that it was a very grassroots effort and that it might also work in <br />San Leandro; he offered any support to tell others how to organize. He said it needs an advocacy <br />group to succeed. <br />2. Continued Discussion Regarding Redevelopment Agency Financial Assistance for the <br />9th Grade Campus Upgrades and Gymnasium <br />
