Cooke, Principal Enginderi` /
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MATTER OF GRANTING COMCAST CABLE A PRIVATE UTILITY EASEMENT AND
AN ACCESS EASEMENT TO RETAIN AND MAINTAIN ITS FACILITIES AT 2599
FAIRWAY DRIVE, A PORTION OF ASSESSOR'S PARCEL NO. 079A-0590-001-05
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Stephen L. Hollister
Interim City Manager
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends adoption of a resolution to grant Comcast Cable a private utility easement and
access easement to retain and maintain its facilities at 2599 Fairway Drive, a portion of
Assessor's Parcel No. 079A-0590-001-05.
BACKGROUND
Analysis
Comcast Cable currently leases the northernmost portion of a City -owned parcel at 2599 Fairway
Drive to the north of the Marina Golf Course. This parcel abuts Marina Boulevard and is
approximately 29,700 square feet in size. Comcast Cable plans to move its office to another
location when its lease expires on December 31, 2008, but it would like to retain some of its
facilities onsite, including a tower and a small building located at the easterly corner of the
parcel. These facilities are necessary for Comcast Cable to provide cable services to San
Leandro residents and business owners, so it is essential that they remain.
To keep this equipment in place, a private utility easement needs to be granted to Comcast Cable.
In addition, a second easement needs to be provided for access and maintenance. The proposed
private utility easement is approximately 30 feet by 40 feet, and is depicted on the attached
topographic exhibit. The Comcast Cable structures only occupy about four percent of the total
parcel area, so this will not pose any significant limitations on the future use of the property.
Furthermore, the easement agreement provides for future relocation if required.
