MINUTES CITY OF SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL AND SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 29, 1998 Civic Center 835 East 14th Street San Leandro, California SPECIAL MEETING -- 7'OO P.M -- CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS 1. CALL TO ORDER A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag B. Roll Call PRESENT: Council Members Galvan, Glaze, Loeffler, Lothrop, Polvorosa, Young; Mayor Corbett ABSENT: None 2. PUBLIC COMMENTS Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is invited to make any comments related to Agenda items, or other items of public interest, at this time. A. Ann Hague, 1102 San Rafael, President of the Estudillo Homeowners' Association, addressed the Council, asking for clarification on the appointments to the Council Committees and the Intergovernmental Agencies this evening. She also questioned why the Council is discussing the vacancy in District 2, as she felt this was to be a ceremonial occasion. She further stated, if there is a time urgency in dealing with the vacancy issue, the Council should hold a special meeting in July instead of going on recess during the month. She also added, if the Council chooses to do an appointment process rather than putting the issue on the November ballot, she feels the Council should consider citizens in District 2 by letting them submit their resumes. She concluded by stating, if the Council will be doing an appointment process, they should not be taking a recess in July so that the Council can make the appointment to fill the vacancy. The Mayor explained the appointments on the Agenda for the Council Committees, indicating there will be committee meetings held during the month of July; and the new, incoming Mayor should be appointed to replace Mayor Corbett on those Committees. The City Attorney explained that the Council would only be making a decision regarding the process to be used to fill the vacancy in District 2 this evening.
