Hollister <br />City Manager <br />RESOLUTION OF AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO JOSEPH J. ALBANESE, <br />INC. FOR THE EAST 14TH STREET (CALIFORNIA STATE ROUTE (SR)-185) MEDIANS <br />PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 06-150-38-228, FEDERAL AID PROJECT NO. HP21L-5041(029). <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder, Joseph J. Albanese, Inc., in the amount of <br />$608,630 for the subject project. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 2002, the Federal Highway Administration, through the Federal Transportation Equity Act for <br />the 21st Century (TEA-21) awarded the City a grant of $704,000 for work on the East 14th Street <br />corridor. On April 12, 2004, the City Council adopted the East 14th Street South Area <br />Development Strategy, which recommended construction of landscaped medians and curb return <br />bulbouts on East 14th Street between San Leandro Boulevard and the southerly city limits. The <br />Redevelopment Agency (RDA) adopted the 2004-2009 Implementation Plan for the Alameda <br />County/City of San Leandro Redevelopment Project Area, which identifies public improvements <br />consistent with the East 14th Street South Area Plan as being of highest priority in implementing <br />the objectives of the RDA. <br />This pro~ect will install landscaped concrete medians, left turn pockets and pedestrian refuges on <br />East 14t Street between 136th Avenue and 144th Avenue, consistent with the East 14th Street <br />South Area Plan. <br />
