Discussion Regarding Safe Routes to Schools/Crossing Guards <br />City Manager Hollister introduced Nora Cody of Transform, who is in charge of Alameda <br />County's Safe Routes to Schools Program. Ms. Cody gave an overview of the many Safe Routes <br />to Schools Programs, i.e., Walking School Bus Program, International Walk to School Day <br />(10/7/09), Bicycle Safety Program and the Pedestrian Safety Puppet Show (handouts attached). <br />City Manager Hollister gave an overview cost of the Crossing Guard Program. The City did <br />voluntarily provide crossing guards for both the San Leandro Unified School District (District) <br />and the San Lorenzo Unified School District (SLzUSD) at an annual cost of $100,000. <br />Superintendent Lim stated that of 42 school districts surveyed recently, districts are not required <br />to provide crossing guards. She continued to state that the District wants to resolve the issue. <br />
