Hollister <br />City Manager <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING WORK OF THE DOWNTOWN LIGHTING AND <br />PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 07-961-83-054. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends acceptance of the work, filing of the Notice of Completion, and authorizing <br />the City Manager to release the maintenance bonds for the subject project upon successful <br />completion of the one-year maintenance period. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Analysis <br />On June 16, 2008, by Resolution 2008-066, the City Council awarded the construction contract <br />for the subject project to McGuire & Hester, Inc. Construction is complete and is in compliance <br />with the contract documents. This project included: installing decorative street lighting in the <br />downtown area (an area bordered by East 14t~ Street, Davis Street, Hays Street, Juana Avenue, <br />and Parrott Street); repairing pavement within the plaza; installing Americans with Disability Act <br />(ADA)-compliant walkways; creating a new pedestrian plaza by closing the West Joaquin <br />Avenue entrance west of East 14t~ Street; and reconstructing two City-owned parking lots. <br />These improvements are in conformance with the recommendations of the Central San <br />Leandro/BART Area Revitalization Strategy, the Downtown Plan and Urban Design Guidelines <br />and the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Strategy. <br />
