E., City En 'neer <br />Engineering and Transportatio Departmen <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE WORK FOR 1550 EAST 14TH STREET AND 262 DAVIS <br />STREET TEMPORARY PARKING LOTS PROJECT, PROJECT NO.09-962-86-070 AND 09- <br />961-83-077. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends acceptance of the work, filing of the Notice of Completion, and upon <br />completion to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the one-year maintenance period, hereby <br />authorizes the City Manager to release the Maintenance Bond for the subject project. <br />BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS <br />The City, in cooperation with the Redevelopment Agency (RDA), has prepared plans for <br />demolition of the existing Estudillo/Callan Garage and construction of a new parking structure in <br />its place. It is anticipated that the project will break ground in Spring 2010. The existing garage <br />and adjacent surface lot contain approximately 234 parking spaces that will be unavailable for <br />use by the public for the duration of the project. <br />The City and the RDA identified two locations for temporary parking lots: 262 and 290 Davis <br />Street and 1550 East 14~' Street. The RDA owns the property at 1550 East 14`h Street (formerly <br />Albertsons) and at 290 Davis (formerly Temptations Bar) and leases (with an option to buy) the <br />property at 262 Davis Street from the Chamber of Commerce. The Davis Street properties <br />contain 15,550 square feet that will be used for approximately 40 leased parking spaces. The <br />East 14~' Street property contains 75,359 square feet that will be used for approximately 198 <br />parking spaces. <br />City staff prepared plans for construction of the two parking lots for use by downtown businesses <br />and the public while the Estudillo/Callan Parking Garage is under construction.
