Cooke, Principal Engineer
Engineering & Transportation Dep~
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Stt phen Hollister
City Manager
MATTER OF CONTINUANCE OF THE PUBLIC HEARING TO ADOPT A LOCALLY
PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE FOR THE PROPOSED UPGRADING OF THE EXISTING 1R
BUS LINE ALONG EAST 14TH STREET TO BUS RAPID TRANSIT(BRT).
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
AC Transit asked that the City Council postpone the City's selection of a Locally Preferred
Alternative (LPA) for the proposed upgrading of the existing 1 R bus line along East 14~' Street
to Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Therefore, Staff recommends continuance of the public hearing to
May 17, 2010.
BACKGROUND
AC Transit is working with the Cities of San Leandro, Oakland and Berkeley to identify an LPA
for the BRT since the circulation of the Draft Envirorunental Impact Study/Report in 2007.
Numerous community and stakeholder meetings were held to receive input on how to improve
the proposed design to accommodate resident and business owner concerns.
Analysis
AC Transit requested that the City Council postpone the public hearing on the City's selection of
an LPA for the proposed upgrading of the existing 1R bus line along East 14~' Street to BRT.
AC Transit has not finished seeking input from community stakeholders and businesses, so it
asks that the public hearing be continued to the May 17, 2010 City Council meeting to
accommodate additional public outreach.
