Hollister
City Manager
RESOLUTION OF AWARD OF CONTRACT TO JIM FREETHY EXCAVATING, INC. FOR
THE TOYON PARK PLAYGROUND SITEWORK, PROJECT NO. 10-150-62-109.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder, Jim Freethy Excavating, Inc., in the
amount of $35,593.92.
BACKGROUND
Recently, the non-profit organization KaBOOM! selected Toyon Park for one of its community
designed, privately sponsored, and community built playgrounds. Council authorized the City
Manager to sign a Letter of Intent to partner with KaBOOM! to design and construct a
playground at Toyon Park.
KaBOOM! will have a Design Day public meeting with the architect on July 22, 2010 at which
the final playground fixtures will be selected. On Build Day (September 18, 2010) KABOOM!
and its volunteer construction members will install the playground equipment and safety
surfacing. Prior to the Build Day, however, the City is required to construct the necessary
playground site improvements.
Toyon Park Playground was one of the projects selected to receive East Bay Regional Park
District's (District) Measure WW grant funds. WW funding will be used to construct the City's
site improvements, including concrete curb installation, storm drainage modifications, and
improvements to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
