Hollister <br />City Manager <br />RESOLUTION OF AWARD OF CONTRACT TO JIM FREETHY EXCAVATING, INC. FOR <br />THE TOYON PARK PLAYGROUND SITEWORK, PROJECT NO. 10-150-62-109. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder, Jim Freethy Excavating, Inc., in the <br />amount of $35,593.92. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Recently, the non-profit organization KaBOOM! selected Toyon Park for one of its community <br />designed, privately sponsored, and community built playgrounds. Council authorized the City <br />Manager to sign a Letter of Intent to partner with KaBOOM! to design and construct a <br />playground at Toyon Park. <br />KaBOOM! will have a Design Day public meeting with the architect on July 22, 2010 at which <br />the final playground fixtures will be selected. On Build Day (September 18, 2010) KABOOM! <br />and its volunteer construction members will install the playground equipment and safety <br />surfacing. Prior to the Build Day, however, the City is required to construct the necessary <br />playground site improvements. <br />Toyon Park Playground was one of the projects selected to receive East Bay Regional Park <br />District's (District) Measure WW grant funds. WW funding will be used to construct the City's <br />site improvements, including concrete curb installation, storm drainage modifications, and <br />improvements to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. <br />
