CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />CITY COUNCIL BUSINESS AND HOUSING DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br />June 10, 2010 <br />4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. <br />San Leandro City Hall <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br />Sister Cities Gallery <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />Committee Members: Chair Stephens, Vice Mayor Reed and Councilmernber Starosciak. <br />City staff present: City Manager Hollister, Community Development Director Sims, Business <br />Development Manager Battenberg, Business Development Analyst Kay, <br />Development Specialist Ricard <br />Public present: None <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. <br />1. Update on Development Projects <br />a. C sler: Business Development Manager Battenberg informed the committee that the <br />Chrysler Corporation has purchased the former GMC Pontiac site on Marina Boulevard <br />and intends to open a new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealership this fall. <br />b. 14700 Catalina Street: Battenberg explained that The Alameda County Joint <br />Apprenticeship Training Committee for the Electrical Trade (JATC) is in the process <br />purchasing 14700 Catalina Street from Faith Fellowship Church. JATC intends to use the <br />space as a training center as well as for administrative support functions; this type of use is <br />allowed by the Zoning Code. <br />c. District Council 16 Journeyman: will be moving into a portion of the former Kellogg's <br />building to operate an apprentice training program to teach the application of and/or <br />installation of paint and coatings, adhesives, floor and wall coverings, and drywall, <br />sheetrock, and similar wall surface material installation and preparation. <br />d. NUMMI: Battenberg explained that Tesla motors will be moving into a small portion of the <br />former NUMMI manufacturing plant. Tesla is expected to build approximately 20,000 cars <br />a year, substantially less than the 500,000 cars a year that were constructed when the plant <br />was owned and operated by General Motors and Toyota. <br />e. Walking Tours: As a follow up the Downtown Symposium the Office of Business <br />Development Staff held three walking tours which left from the Downtown Farmers' <br />Market and highlighted recent and future developments in the downtown (see attached <br />map). <br />
