The City operates a sidewalk repair program,
described in Title 8 of the San Leandro Administrative Code, which provides for the repair of
sidewalk damage. Minor defects are ground or patched at no (direct) charge to property owners.
Larger defects that require removal and replacement of the concrete are also repaired under the
program, but the property owner adjacent to such a defect must reimburse the City for the full
construction cost unless a city street tree is the cause of damage. Property owners are only
responsible to pay for half the construction cost for damage caused by a city street tree.
In addition to the repair of sidewalk, this project will include the installation of some sidewalk
curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. As part of the
City's ADA curb ramp transition plan, several updated sidewalk curb ramps are installed each
year. These ramps are installed adjacent to new street work, at resident requested locations and
eventually at all intersections.
