Discussion Regarding Chabot Park Lease Extension
Uche Udemezue gave an overview of the Chabot Park lease extension. The park is
owned by EBMUD. The current lease expires on June 30, 2011. A request for approval
of a 4 -year lease will be presented to Council at the June 20, 2011 City Council meeting.
The cost of the lease is a one -time fee of 52,000. For the first time, EBMUD is asking
the City to share in the cost to maintain the bridge. Most vehicles using the bridge do not
belong to EBMUD. Typical maintenance required is painting and minor repairs, such as
changing bolts and graffiti maintenance. EBMUD does the work. Costs have averaged
about 52,000 per year.
Discussion ensued. Staff responded to questions from the Committee. Councilmember
Souza asked why the lease is only for four years, and if 'assumptions of cost
responsibilities are included in the lease agreement. Uche explained that EBMUD cannot
do any work without approval from the City and that previous leases have been for terms
of three to five years.
