• • <br /> City Council Airport Committee <br /> September 17, 2002 <br /> Meeting Highlights <br /> Called to order at 4:10 p.m. <br /> Committee Members Present: Shelia Young, Surlene Grant, Tony Santos <br /> 7 audience members present <br /> 3 Port of Oakland representatives present <br /> 3 City staff members present <br /> Discussion regarding Oakland international Airport South Field Study Group Representation <br /> • The Port of Oakland has agreed to form a South Field Study Group, similar in nature to the <br /> North Field Flight Route /Pattern Research Group. <br /> • Committee members agreed that City representation should be similar to that of the North <br /> Field Group — 2 citizen representatives and 1 City staff member. <br /> • Other groups represented will likely be airport tenants, pilots, Air Traffic Control, City of <br /> Alameda and CLASS. <br /> • Chair Young asked the audience to submit names to her and the Committee members for <br /> • suggested citizen representatives. <br /> • Audience members recommended Francois Gallo of NAACSL; Wafaa Aborashed of the <br /> Davis West Neighborhood Group; and John Manuel and Dennis Rosucci, Neptune Drive <br /> residents. <br /> • Chair Young will review the suggested names with the Committee Members and notify the <br /> Port of the City's recommended representatives. <br /> Discussion Regarding Quarterly Reports from the Port of Oakland <br /> • Staff and Port of Oakland representatives explained the quarterly reports that are being <br /> shared with the City of San Leandro. <br /> • The reports are prepared for the City of Alameda and CLASS as a review of flight <br /> procedures pilots are using for noise abatement practices. The reports are provided in <br /> compliance with the existing settlement agreement between Alameda, CLASS and the Port. <br /> • Committee Member Santos suggested San Leandro should receive a similar report specific to <br /> San Leandro, particularly reporting on arrivals on runway 9 R/L. <br /> • Staff will make North Field Group reports on runways 9 R/L and 27 R/L available to the <br /> Committee Members. <br /> • Santos commented that San Leandro does not have a program to control landings on runway <br /> 27 R/L at night. Perhaps this could be discussed by the North Field Group. <br /> • He has observed numerous left turn departures from the south field over San Leandro and <br /> • asked if more could be straight out departures at night. <br /> • The Port will make CD copies of the quarterly report available to the community if <br /> requested. <br />
