Alameda CTC Agreement No.Al2-0032 <br /> MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING <br /> BETWEEN <br /> THE ALAMEDA COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION <br /> AND <br /> CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> FOR THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM EXPANSION <br /> This Memorandum of Understanding("MOU") is between the City of San Leandro ("COSL")and the <br /> Alameda County Transportation Commission ("Alameda CTC"). <br /> RECITALS <br /> WHEREAS,the Alameda CTC Safe Routes to Schools Program ("Alameda CTC-SR2S") is working <br /> with students, parents, and schools to encourage more students to walk to school and to teach <br /> important safety information. <br /> WHEREAS, the Alameda CTC-SR2S began in 2006 and is designed to promote safe walking and <br /> biking to school to reduce children's risk of obesity and associated health problems and to reduce traffic <br /> congestion in the areas surrounding schools. The program is currently operating in seven (7) of the City <br /> of San Leandro's public K-8 schools. <br /> WHEREAS, the COSL is a recipient of a Caltrans Safe Routes to School Cycle 3 Non-Infrastructure <br /> ("SRTS-NI") grant for conducting pedestrian and bicycle safety education, encouragement activities and <br /> workshops for 10 elementary schools and three (3) middle schools. The program will occur over the <br /> 2012-13 school year and the COSL has hired Safe Moves as the COSL's consultant to provide the <br /> multifaceted educational program. <br /> WHEREAS, having both the Alameda CTC-SR2S and the SRTS-NI grant allows for a unique <br /> opportunity for a concerted effort to promote biking and walking to school safely in San Leandro. As <br /> such the objective is to ensure that both programs reinforce, coordinate and expand on each other <br /> rather than overlap and that both programs run as one well organized program that is seamless to <br /> students, schools, principals and the school districts. <br /> WHEREAS,the COSL and Alameda CTC have agreed to expand the Alameda CTC-SR2S to include <br /> all 13 schools within San Leandro for the 2012-13 school year in order to provide for a coordinated <br /> program and to take advantage of the SRTS-NI grant. <br /> 1 of 5 <br />
