MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> APRIL 19, 1993 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> Mayor Karp noted that. the Engineering staff had a table set up in the lobby to <br /> answer questions related to the Public Hearing on the cost of sidewalk repairs. <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Presentation of California Parks and Recreation Society, District III, <br /> Community Education Award for the Youth Gang Awareness Program. <br /> Steve Pearsall , representing the California Recreation and Parks <br /> Society, presented an Award to the City for its Youth Gang Awareness <br /> Program. He read the Award and described the Youth Gang Awareness <br /> Program as a way of informing the community about the effects of gang <br /> involvement and addressing the problem. <br /> Mayor Karp said Dennis Smith, Director of Parks and Recreation, and the <br /> City Council , have done a superb job and asked Mr. Smith to accept the <br /> Award on behalf of the City. Mr. Smith said the Award is an honor and <br /> noted there was a lot of tough competition in the Community Education <br /> category. He said he hopes to extend the Program into next year and to <br /> get some permanent funding. Council Member Perry said the Partnership <br /> for Youth Safety Committee, which has been shepherding the Youth Gang <br /> Awareness Program, will be meeting on the 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the <br /> South Offices Conference Room and will hear an update on the Program. <br /> She said the Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month. <br /> Mayor Karp said the Council has taken on the task of gang awareness to <br /> make sure the adults who have children in school are educated. <br />
