MINUTES SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 19, 1993 The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp presiding. 1. CALL TO ORDER 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG 3. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; Mayor Karp ABSENT: None Mayor Karp noted that. the Engineering staff had a table set up in the lobby to answer questions related to the Public Hearing on the cost of sidewalk repairs. 4. PRESENTATIONS A. Presentation of California Parks and Recreation Society, District III, Community Education Award for the Youth Gang Awareness Program. Steve Pearsall , representing the California Recreation and Parks Society, presented an Award to the City for its Youth Gang Awareness Program. He read the Award and described the Youth Gang Awareness Program as a way of informing the community about the effects of gang involvement and addressing the problem. Mayor Karp said Dennis Smith, Director of Parks and Recreation, and the City Council , have done a superb job and asked Mr. Smith to accept the Award on behalf of the City. Mr. Smith said the Award is an honor and noted there was a lot of tough competition in the Community Education category. He said he hopes to extend the Program into next year and to get some permanent funding. Council Member Perry said the Partnership for Youth Safety Committee, which has been shepherding the Youth Gang Awareness Program, will be meeting on the 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the South Offices Conference Room and will hear an update on the Program. She said the Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month. Mayor Karp said the Council has taken on the task of gang awareness to make sure the adults who have children in school are educated.
