/, .1k <br /> 1 <br /> MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> MAY 3, 1993 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to Key Club of San Leandro <br /> High School Student Prize Winners Amaris Carroway, Derek Robinson, Amy <br /> Tang, Christina Valdez, and Mitch White, and Adult Advisors Carl Feick, <br /> Bruce Hennings, and Chris Miller. <br /> Mayor Karp said the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro sponsors the Key Club <br /> at San Leandro High School . He said the 32 members of the Key Club had <br /> gone to competitions in Hawaii and had won a total of five prizes -- <br /> two First Prize, one Second Prize, and two Third Prizes. He said <br /> Kiwanis Club exemplifies the benefits of volunteerism. <br /> Jeff McGallian, City Board of Zoning Adjustments member and member of <br /> the Kiwanis Club, said it is a great pleasure to talk about the Key <br /> Club and to recognize the kids and the adults who receive these awards. <br /> He credited Chris Miller for the fine turnout. He said she is an <br /> unsung hero and a driving force in the group. He said she does a lot <br /> of work at the schools taking care of the counselors, as well as <br /> working with kids and adults. <br /> Mayor Karp and Council Member Myers, who is also a member of Kiwanis, <br /> presented Certificates of Appreciation to Chris Miller; Bruce Hennings, <br /> who received top honors in the California, Hawaii , and Nevada District <br /> as recognition for his services above-and-beyond the call of duty; and <br /> to Carl Feick, who it was noted, had stepped down as an advisor but is <br /> still heavily involved with the Key Club. <br /> The students who had received awards were then asked to step forward, <br /> and Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Amy Teng, who had <br /> won First Place for an impromptu essay. Her entry was one of over 110 <br /> entries. Her English teacher, Mr. Dale Robinson, was also introduced. <br />
