MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> MARCH 7, 1994 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in Regular Session in the City <br /> Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Faria <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Kerr, Myers, Nahm, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Faria <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> A. Introduction by Council Member Nahm and Recognition of Anthony <br /> Phillips, Andrew Shum, and Robert P. Calderwood, Traveling as "People- <br /> to-People Student Ambassadors" to the Republic of China this Summer. <br /> Council Member Nahm introduced Anthony Phillips, Andrew Shum, and <br /> Robert Calderwood. He said they are outstanding students, and they <br /> were recently accepted in the "People-to-People Student Ambassadors" <br /> Program, a 21-day exchange program with the Republic of China. He said <br /> these students will need to raise $4,000 each in order to participate <br /> in the program, and he encouraged businesses and industries in the <br /> community to contribute to this worthwhile program. <br /> Anthony Phillips, on behalf of himself and the other members of the <br /> program, said they are very excited about participating in this fun, <br /> challenging program. He said they are looking forward to exchanging <br /> views and perspectives with people of a different social , cultural , and <br /> economic structure. He said this is a very constructive opportunity to <br /> gain a universal perspective, they have a lot to offer, and they feel <br /> they will be an asset to the program. He said he enjoys meeting people <br /> and making new friends, and this program will help bring our countries <br /> together and help to establish relationships for world peace. <br /> 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS Public Comments are limited to 3 minutes per person. <br /> A. Bob Berger, spoke regarding the purchasing agreement for work stations. <br /> He said he objected to a purchasing agreement with Santa Clara County <br /> and questioned the 52% discount off list price. He said this furniture <br /> should be purchased in San Leandro so the sales tax could be retained <br /> in San Leandro. <br />
