CALL TO ORDER
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
3. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos;
Mayor Karp
ABSENT: None
4. PRESENTATIONS
None
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
A. Barbara Tierney, 3965 Mission Way, spoke regarding the Northern
California Philharmonic Orchestra. She noted the Orchestra no longer
has San Leandro in the name. She said several years ago the maestro
and several other representatives of the Orchestra asked for non-
financial support from the City to bring culture to San Leandro. She
said, at that time, they said the name San Leandro would always be part
of the name of the Orchestra. She said, with funding tight, she feels
the money which the City gives to the Orchestra should be used for
other purposes.
Mayor Karp said her statements regarding the name of the Orchestra were
correct, and without the word San Leandro in the name, the Orchestra
has lost its identity.
B. Bob Leigh, 1388 Drake, Representing San Leandrans for Responsible
Government, said they presented the City Clerk with signatures asking
that the City Council repeal the Ordinance related to the Assessment
Districts or submit the matter to the voters. He said the signatures
were gathered over a four-week period of time following the urgency
adoption of the Ordinance. He discussed the various groups and
citizens who had participated in the signature-collecting process and
thanked them for their hard work. He said he felt the number of
signatures represented only part of the people of San Leandro who were
in opposition to the Ordinance. He asked the City Council to respond
to the petitions by bringing the residents in the community back
together to solve San Leandro's problems.
