MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> APRIL 1, 1991 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> A. Robert Leigh, President of Washington Homeowners Association, thanked <br /> the staff for their help with the successful Easter Egg Hunt at <br /> Washington Manor Park. He said over 900 children participated. He <br /> expressed appreciation to Dan Paiva of the Recreation Department, the <br /> Optimists' Club, the Fire and Police Departments, and Mayor Karp and <br /> Council Members Perry and Glaze. <br /> B. The following people spoke regarding the Matter of Appointment of a <br /> community advisory committee on youth: <br /> Angelo Lievore, 908 Rodney Drive, spoke on behalf of concerned parents . <br /> He said he applauded the formation of an advisory committee on youth <br /> enthusiastically and thanked the City Council for their encouragement <br /> and support. He said the schools are unsafe and the climate for <br /> education is deteriorating. Mr. Lievore suggested modifications to the <br /> proposed membership of the committee. He said it was important to keep <br /> the committee small and manageable so that action could be taken as <br /> quickly as possible. <br /> Mayor Karp noted that he and Council Members Corbett and Glaze had met <br /> with School Board Members Wilson, Plankenhorn and McPhee and heard <br /> reports from City Manager Dick Randall , Superintendent of Schools Dick <br /> Tubbs, and Jim O'Meara from the San Leandro Police Department. He said <br /> the item on tonight's Agenda was approval of the concept of formation <br /> of a committee and that, after the School Board had also approved the <br /> concept, membership would be proposed by the City and San Leandro Unified <br /> School District Liaison Committee. <br /> Council Member Santos said he was concerned regarding Mr. Lievore' s <br /> suggestions for membership. He said it was extremely important to have <br /> young people and students from the high school represented. He said Mr. <br /> Lievore's suggestion also eliminated the clergy. He said it was <br />
