City of San Leandro
Meeting Date: July 18, 2016
Staff Report
Agenda Section:File Number:16-327 CONSENT CALENDAR
Agenda Number:8.J
TO:City Council
FROM:Chris Zapata
City Manager
BY:Keith Cooke
Engineering & Transportation Director
FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum
Finance Director
TITLE:Staff Report for a Resolution Accepting the Work for the Thrasher Park Play
Equipment and Fence Project, Project No. 2006.0070
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the work for the Thrasher Park Play Equipment
and Fence Project and authorize the City Manager to file the Notice of Completion, release
the performance and payment bonds and release the maintenance bond upon successful
completion of the one-year maintenance period.
BACKGROUND
This project replaced the existing dated play structure with new age-appropriate play
structures and resilient rubber ground surfacing within the existing play area perimeter. The
new equipment is compliant with State of California safety regulations for playgrounds and
meets accessibility provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To improve safety
and prevent foul balls from leaving the ball field, the project also replaced six-foot tall sections
of the ball field perimeter fence adjacent to the play area with ten-foot tall fence sections.
Also, consistent with the Citywide ADA transition plan, the project upgraded the park furniture
in the play area vicinity to meet ADA standards. Post-construction photographs of the new
park equipment are included as an attachment to this report.
Analysis
Construction is complete. The work was inspected and deemed to comply with the contract
documents and City standards. The contractor has submitted a maintenance bond that meets
the requirements of the contract.
Significant funding for this project was provided through a grant from the California
Department of Housing and Community Development. The award amount was based on
successful completion of affordable housing projects in the City of San Leandro.
Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 7/13/2016
214
