this happen. I was approved a CALFHA loan at 5.25 % for the rest of
the loan for 320,000. As a single mother of two children on a limited
income of 48,000.00 a year I was determined to make this work. I
took the first time homebuyer class in November and closed escrow
on January 15, 2006. I work every other weekend 28 hours of
overtime for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office which comes out to
about an additional $25,000 on top of my regular salary. I do this
because I love my children and I want them to have the very best.

At the time I was looking to buy I considered moving to other cities in
the bay area. However, my children and I love living in San Leandro
and they enjoyed their teachers and friends at school. It was
breaking my heart to move them from their familiar surroundings. So
we were fortunate to find a condo in San Leandro within our price
range that had enough space for all of us. We found a two bedroom,
2 bathroom condo with a den. We made the den a bedroom for my 6
year old son. For once we all had our own rooms and became
homebuyers. This is extremely important to me because my mom
was a single mother as well. She was on a low income and could
not afford to buy a house for her family. I was determined to become
a homebuyer so my children would know what it is like to actually
own something and have bigger aspirations in life.

Mr. Perras on the planning commission called our block ugly and
needed some new changes. Well I found a picture at the San
Leandro Library's Historical Room which shows a picture of our
street. It still looks the same as it did in 1966. I know our city has
taken on many changes since then. However, I do not consider our
block ugly. The Garden Terrace Homeowner takes great pride in our
building. We have regular maintenance to trim our hedges and keep
our building looking good. We were victims of graffiti taggers earlier
this year. We the homeowners took it upon ourselves and
immediately cleaned and painted the graffiti off of building. We will
continue to do our part as homeowners and maintaining our building.
We would like the city to recognize how diligent we are and consider
what we will lose should this project Mr. Landgon proposals goes
through.
