<br />MINUTES Page 7 <br />City of San L<.:andro City Council and San Leandro Redevclopmenl Agency Joint Special Meeting --.JANUARY 26, <br />2004 <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Claze arrived at the meeting and took his seat at the dais. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported that the EBDA Board has been working with LA VWMA and <br />Vice Mayor Glaze on a community meeting to be held on Thursday, January 29 for the <br />residents of Heron Bay and any other interested persons regarding the LA VWMA super <br />sewer project which is now being constructed through San Leandro streets. <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council C01111nittees <br /> <br />I. Disaster Council Meeting of January 7,2004. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />2. Iluman Relations Committee Meeting of January 8, 2004, Accepted as <br />submitted. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos asked why members of the faith eomlnunity have not been <br />attending the lIuman Relations Committee meetings. Couneilmemher Badger <br />commented that he also wondered about their lack of attendance. Councilmemher <br />Grant noted that it may he due to the change in the committee's meeting schedule, <br />City Manager Jermanis inclicated that stare have developed a mailing list and <br />email list of faith community members and is keeping them infoTInecl of the <br />committee meetings. Councihnemher Grant noted that when thc faith community <br />or non-pro fit organizations arc concerncd about a particular issue, they will <br />usually let Councilmembers know. Mayor Young noted that one year while she <br />was serving on the committee, the committee and the faith community jointly <br />sponsored a Thanksgiving celebration at St. Leander's. She suggested it might he <br />a good idea to try a similar event again. Councilmember Grant agreed that some <br />type of joint event would be a good idea. She mentioned that she' cl heard the <br />Interf~1ith Council had disbanded. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Counci Imember Santos comrnented that last Saturday he attended the dedication of a 120,000 <br />square-foot warehouse on Doolittle owned by a group of SikI1 businessmen, Council member <br />Santos stated there were approximately 400 people in attendance, and he was "adopted" by <br />the Sikh community and presented with a plaque. He noted several people expressed interest <br />in locating their businesses in San Leandro. <br /> <br />Councilmembcr Santos commented that he observed cars speeding on Virginia Street, and <br />residents asked irthe City could look into a trallic-calming program for their street. <br /> <br />COLlncilmember Santos acknowledged the many comments on airplane noise heard by the <br />Council at tonight's meeting. He noted he has been involved with the issLle since the 1980s. <br />Councilmember Santos pointed out that it has taken three years to work out improvements to <br />the settlcment agreement with the Port or Oakland, and thc insulation program is just one of <br />lnany improvements which have been lnade.
