She commented <br />that for the two chosen applicants, the time and place was right for them to <br />participate. Councilmember Grant responded to the members ofNAACSL, <br />acknowledging their involvement and commenting that now they have two <br />more people who will share their concerns and help bring their message <br />forward. She encouraged the Council and community members to take the <br />opportunity to meet with Ms. Fewless and Mr. Reynolds and find out what <br />interests they bring to the table. <br /> <br />Mayor Young thanked the Airport Committee for handling a very difficult <br />task. She mentioned the comments she has received from the public <br />regarding the need for new faces and more people to get involved in airport <br />issues. Mayor Young noted that it sounded from the relTIarks made by the <br />selection subcommittee that the two individuals are well qualified. <br /> <br />Mayor Young requested that the entire Council receive copies of the <br />applications and agreed with Councilmember Glaze that a referral should be <br />made to the Rules and Communications Committee to consider a process in <br />which all applications go to the Council prior to making an appointment to <br />an advisory body at a public meeting. <br /> <br />In response to a statement made by Ms. Aborashed, Mayor Young asked the <br />Inembers of the appointing subcommittee if Mr. Reynolds is a developer. <br />Councilmembers Grant and Santos replied that he is not. <br /> <br />Councilmember N ardine commented that as a member of the Airport <br />Conmlittee, she did not receive the applications either. She stated that she <br />believed it is the Council's duty to give the community representatives the <br />direction to meet with nlelllbers of NAACSL and other COlTIlTIUnity groups, <br />rather than asking the community to seek them out. <br /> <br />Mayor Young suggested that the Airport COlnnlittee decide what direction <br />to give to the two community representatives. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant noted that the requirements of the Stakeholder <br />Committee are spelled out in a letter from the Port of Oakland. Mayor <br />Young expressed interest in seeing the letter. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos asked that staff provide all the relevant information <br />on the application process to the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Young requested that staff put together a summary outlining the <br />responsibilities of the menlbers of the Master Plan Stakeholder COlnnlittee. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br />
