When you address the City Council, you
should fill out a speaker card and subn1it it to the City Clerk so the order of speakers may be
detennined and an official record of names and addresses obtained. The public is invited to
111ake con1Inents on items of public interest NOT listed on the Agenda.

\Villiam (Jim) Athey, 1805 Sundberg Avenue, addressed the City Council, expressing
opposition to the proposed crematoriun1 on Tin10thy Drive.

Harold Perez, Davis West Neighborhood Group, addressed the City Council regarding
opposition to the proposed crematorium, concerns about blimps and airplanes with banners
flying overhead, insulation for homes adjacent to Westgate Parkway, the need for better
noti fication by the City to Timothy Drive residents and for those residents to better organize
themselves. Mr. Perez cOlnmented that there is already a crematorium on 164th Avenue.

Howard Beckman, 1261 Via Dolorosa, San Lorenzo, addressed the City Council,
expressing concern regarding the City's negotiations with the Port of Oakland over changes in
operations at the North Field and that the City not endorse any change to the settlement
agreement which would affect areas outside San Leandro.

Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the City Council in support of the
C0111n1ents n1ade by Mr. Beckman. Mr. Filipovich stated that, because the District 4
Counciln1en1ber is not present at the meeting, any action taken by the Council tonight does
not apply to anyone in Washington Manor.

6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS

City Manager J ermanis reported that the City Council will hold a public hearing at its October
18th meeting regarding the proposal for a crematorium on Timothy Drive. He outlined the
vmious options for Council consideration at that meeting.

Mr. J ermanis corrected the statement made by Mr. Perez regarding the insulation of homes in
West San Leandro. Mr. Jermanis noted that Mr. Perez was quoting the 1999
recon1ll1endations froln the West San Leandro Advisory Committee, and there was no
representation in the document of any intention by the City to insulate homes near the
Westgate Extension. He further noted that the crematoriun1 mentioned by Mr. Perez was not
actually located in the city of San Leandro.
