<br />I\UNUTES Page 3 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-October 18, 2004 <br /> <br />Wendy Wong, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council in support of Option <br />1. <br /> <br />Alfred Kwok, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, stating that he <br />represents over 100 petition signers who support Option 1. He expressed particular <br />concern for the health and safety of children and the elderly. <br /> <br />Lacy Lee, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing concern for <br />the health of her two young sons who have asthma and expressing support for Option 1. <br /> <br />Ken Mo, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing support for <br />Option 1. He stated that the comlTIunity is afraid of cren1atoriums, as they symbolize <br />the termination of life, and the fear they produce could bring unnecessary spiritual <br />pressure resulting in physical and mental illness to the citizenry. <br /> <br />Milton Yu, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing support for <br />Option 1 and suggesting crematoriulns should be built on uninhabited islands. <br /> <br />Calvin Ching, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, stating he submitted <br />a petition with over 1,000 signatures from residents throughout the city who are <br />opposed to a crematoriun1 in San Leandro. He expressed concerns about the health <br />risks due to emissions from crematoriums. <br /> <br />Alvin Carpenter, owner of Alameda Cremations, addressed the City Council, stating <br />he owns a crematorium in Alameda, and it is a daily struggle to keep the retorts from <br />producing emissions. He commented that the concerns of San Leandro citizens <br />regarding crematoriums are not unfounded and wished the City and its citizens success <br />in making their determination. <br /> <br />Joanne Huang, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council In support of <br />Option 1. <br /> <br />Amy Chan, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council in support of Option 1. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovich, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, stating he is not <br />expressing support or opposition for crematoriums and stating the issue should be put to <br />a vote of the people. <br /> <br />Allan Yeung, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council regarding the safety <br />and health concen1S involved in the operation of a crematorium and expressing support <br />for Option 1. <br /> <br />Simon Wu, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council in support of Option 1. <br />He stated that no matter where a crematorium is built, it would be bad for citizens' <br />health, businesses and property values. <br />
