Mr. Perez commented that Wal*Mart and Fed Ex are non- <br />union companies paying low wages with no health benefits and expressed concem regarding <br />the damage to a tramc light, fence and telephone junction box caused by cars traveling on <br />Davis Street. <br /> <br />Wafaa Ahorashed, Davis West Neighborhood Group, addressed the City Council, <br />welcorning new Councilmember Bill Stephens, and expressing coneem over the cancellation <br />of Council member Santos' Town Hall Meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reminded the audience their comments should be directed to the full Council <br />rather than at individual Councilmembers, <br /> <br />6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY A TTORNRY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager John Jemlanis responded to the questions regarding the traffic on the Davis <br />Street overcrossing, noting Davis Street is a state highway and that the concems expressed at <br />this lneeting will be forwarded to CalTrans. Mr. Jermanis stated the traffic situation near the <br />BART station will be examined by the City's Engineering Department. Mr. Jemlanis noted <br />the matter of the Westgate extension will be discussed later in the meeting and noted funding <br />for the project was approved by the voters through Measure B. Mr. .Jennanis announced the <br />City will hold public input meetings on the Davis Street area and explained the circumstances <br />necessitating the rescheduling or Councilmember Santos' Town Hall Meeting, which is <br />tentatively rescheduled for January 30, 2002 at Garfield School. The agenda will include an <br />update on the Westgate extension and other developments taking place in the West San <br />Leandro area. Mr. Jennanis stated the City is taking steps to acquire the propelty known as <br />Eden Road and will look into the feasibility of connecting Eden Road to Davis Street and <br />provide a report to the Council. The other traffic issues mentioned by the speakers will be <br />brought to the attention orthe appropriate staffmelnbers or outside agencies. <br /> <br />COllncilmember Santos made additional comments regarding the rescheduling of the Town <br />Hall Meeting, noting he was contacted by a West San Leandro resident about a possible <br />conflict with the Board 0 r Zoning Adj ustments meeting on January 16 where items of interest <br />to West San Leandro residents were scheduled for discussion. The January 16 date also <br />conflicted with the Chamber of Commerce installation event. <br /> <br />7. CITY COUNCIL RRPORTS <br /> <br />A. Reports on Intergovel11mental Agencies <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos recalled a discussion he had with Mayor Young regarding the <br />Water Transit Authority. Mayor Young noted water transit is a highly volatile issue and <br />funding may not be available for it in the near future. She also suggested if Council is <br />interested in further discussion on the issue, a member of the Water Transit Authority can <br />be invited to a future meeting or work session to make a presentation. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant reported on the ACAP meeting held in mid-December. Every two <br />years ACAP awards grants to community organizations, and the December meeting was <br />
