He further commented that he <br />thinks a 12-1/2(Yo raise is out or line at a time of 6% unemployment and stated he always <br />thought of the of1Jce of Mayor as a ceremonial position. <br /> <br />Lou Filipovich, 15376 LaVerne Drive, addressed the City Council, stating he agreed with <br />the previous speaker's comments. Mr. Filipovich objected to not being given ample <br />opportunity to comment on the minutes before they arc approved. He commented on a news <br />article From 1998 regarding City cOlllmittees. <br /> <br />Tom Saunders, 782 Hutchings Drive, addressed the City Council regarding the proposed <br />increase to the Mayor's salary. Mr. Saunders commented that with all the cutbacks to school, <br />library and other imp011ant programs, the timing is not right to give the Mayor a raise. He <br />suggested giving the Mayor the salary increase in exchange for sun"endering to the City the <br />money she is paid for attending hoard meetings, which could then be used for other needs in <br />the City. <br /> <br />6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager Jemlanis addressed the comments regarding budget-related issues, stating the <br />City docs not currently have in/ormation on the redeveloptllent impacts. Mr. Jem1anis noted <br />the impact on redevelopment funds could be significant, and staff will continue to monitor the <br />situation. Mr. Jcnnanis further noted there is an item on tonight's agenda regarding Vehicle <br />License Fees which has a huge potential impact on the City's budget. <br /> <br />Mr. lermanis stated the issue of compensation for the Mayor will be discussed under Repot1s <br />on City Council Committees on tonight's agenda. <br /> <br />7. CITY COlJNCIL REPORTS <br /> <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br /> <br />Counci Imember Santos rep0l1cd on the meeting of the Alameda County Commission on <br />Aging. Councilmember Santos noted seniors are very concerned regarding the proposed <br />State cuts to health and welfare programs and that the State is looking to county and local <br />governments to help fill the service gaps. <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Rules and Communications Committee Meeting of December 19, 2002.
