MINUTES City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting~April 7, 2003 Page 4 Councilmember Grant asked about the costs for individual condo owners in a complex and for individual homeowners. Mr. Udemezue noted condominiums typically have only one connection per building to the main line. Mr. Udemezue also mentioned hardship assistance available to homeowners who qualify on the basis of financial need. Mayor Young asked how much an individual homeowner would likely pay, and Mr. Udemezue confirmed the cost is probably in excess of one thousand dollars. Councilmember Nardine asked how individual homes connect to the underground service point. Having experience on the subject, Vice Mayor Glaze described the process. Councilmember Grant and Mayor Young suggested the idea of applying the cost of the undergrounding as a lien on the property for those unable to afford it, which could be collected when the property changes ownership. Councilmember Santos asked about the possibility of the City finding a single contractor to do the connections for individual dwellings and businesses to the main line. Vice Mayor Glaze recalled about 750/0 of the homeowners of the Halcyon-Foothill Homeowners Association agreed on a single contractor for their underground connections and received a very good deal. .
