<br />lVIINUTES Page 6 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-OCTOBER 20,2003 <br /> <br />11. CITY COUNCIL REPORTS <br /> <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos reported on the League of California Cities East Bay Division <br />dinner he recently attended. He con1n1ented on a presentation given by the Association <br />of Bay Area Governluents on its new Lease-Purchase Home Ownership Prograln. <br />Councilmember Badger remarked that both he and Councilmember Grant attended the <br />Program's kick-off event. Counciln1ember Santos noted the presentation provided an <br />update on the program. Councilmelnber Nardine commented that it is a great program <br />and that lnore people should be made a\vare of it. She mentioned that she shared <br />infom1ation on the progrmn with her co-workers, and the infonnation is also available <br />on the Internet. <br /> <br />Counciln1en1ber Santos also reported on the League of California Cities local initiative. <br />He cOlnmented that the League would like elected officials to help fund the campaign <br />and hoped the San Leandro City Council would contribute $1,000. <br /> <br />B. Reports on City Council Comlnittees <br /> <br />1. Facilities Committee Meeting of October 2, 2003. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze introduced Comn1unity Developlnent Director Hanson Horn, who <br />gave a short PowerPoint presentation on the preferred alternative design for the West <br />Estudillo Historic Downtown bnprovement Project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine described the History Walk in Monterey. There are maps <br />imprinted at various places to guide visitors along the Walk, as well as small tiles with <br />images representing Monterey inlaid about every 500 feet. She suggested silnilar <br />features could be used here. Councilmember Nardine mentioned the plan for the City to <br />try new, softer sidewalks and suggested coordinating the installation of the sidewalks <br />with this project. Mr. Honl offered to share Councilmember Nardine's information on <br />the Monterey History Walk with the proj ect consultant. <br /> <br />Councihnelnber Stephens inquired about the project timeline. Mr. Honl indicated the <br />project will go out to bid by June 2004 with construction commencing by sumlner or <br />fall 2004. <br /> <br />Councilmelnber Badger conm1ented that it is nice to see progress being made on the <br />project. He pointed out a bench design with intermediate am1S is preferred, as it will <br />discourage sleeping on public furniture. He also suggested a wrought iron bench would <br />wear better and require less maintenance than wood. <br /> <br />Councilnlen1ber Nardine cOlnmented that the DuMor (wrought iron) bench would be <br />good if it had intermediate arms. She noted the intermediate anns can be an aid for <br />senior citizens. <br />
