<br />MINUTES Page 10 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-NOVEMBER 3,2003 <br /> <br />consensus to bring the iteln back to the Council with recommendations. <br />City Manager Jermanis indicated the item will first come before the <br />Planning Commission, then forwarded to the Council with <br />recommendations. Councilnlember Santos stated a mix of small-scale and <br />large-scale restaurants could be beneficial to all, and that one type should not <br />be excluded in favor of the other. <br /> <br />b. Schedule for Council consideration the adoption of three ordinances to <br />amend the redevelopment project area plans to extend the time limits for one <br />year. <br /> <br />There was consensus of the Council to do so. <br /> <br />2. Finance Committee Meeting of October 16, 2003. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that after voting on the SBC resolution at the October 20 <br />meeting, he received a letter from a group called Californians for Telecommunications <br />Choice, which he was told is backed by AT&T. He expressed concern that the Council has <br />been asked to take sides in a battle between two corporate giants. Councilmember Santos <br />also pointed out while the resolution indicated competition among the telecommunications <br />companies would create local jobs, an article in the San Francisco Chronicle reported SBC <br />has been spinning off jobs to India. He asked the Council to reconsider the resolution to <br />enable him to change his vote. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze expressed concern that reconsidering the action would set a bad precedent. <br /> <br />There was no consensus of the Council to bring the item back for reconsideration. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he attended the Oakland/San Leandro Joint <br />Disaster Preparedness Public Safety Fair on Saturday and expressed disappointment that there <br />was not greater community participation. He acknowledged and expressed his appreciation <br />for the hard work of City staff to promote City services to the community, noting he sees staff <br />at many different events at many different times of the day and applauds their dedication. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze requested the Council adjourn tonight's meeting in memory of William <br />Reed and George Lill. <br /> <br />Councilmelnber Badger commented that it was his pleasure to make welcoming renlarks <br />along with Oakland City Councilmember Larry Reid at the Oakland/San Leandro Adult and <br />Youth Job Fair held at the Coliseum on Friday. He noted the event was well-attended. <br />Councilmember Badger reported he also attended the Disaster Preparedness Public Safety <br />Fair on Saturday and commented that it was very well done. <br />
