<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />February 4, 2002 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Badger noted he is working on a program he is calling <br />"Operation Clean Sweep" and has given his proposed program report to staff for <br />comments. He indicated he would like to present this program to the full City <br />Council in the near future. <br /> <br />Council Member Badger questioned why businesses are not required to have their <br />refuse picked up just like residential customers are required under the City's <br />ordinance. He asked staff to check into this matter. <br /> <br />B, Council Member Grant reported problems with a waste receptacle overflowing <br />onto handicapped parking in the Pelton Center. <br /> <br />Council Member Grant acknowledged receipt of an invitation to the upcoming <br />Youth in Government Program and stated that in her youth she was a participant <br />in this program as a "Senator" for the day. <br /> <br />C. Council Member Nardine acknowledged Teresa Glaze for providing the special <br />Valentine's treat left at the dais, as well as for her efforts in making sure treats are <br />provided for City Council and staff at each Council Meeting. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine clarified how citizens can stay informed about the <br />various Committee Meetings that take place regarding airport noise and requested <br />staff provide City Council with information from the quarterly reports regarding <br />airport noise as to the number of San Leandro citizens who file complaints. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine thanked staff for their efforts in the clean-up of Palma <br />Plaza and indicated she would still like a date certain from the property owner as <br />to when the clean-up will be complete. <br /> <br />D. Vice Mayor Glaze commented on the hotline for street light replacement and <br />indicated he feels the system is not working well. He asked staff for a schedule of <br />how and when streetlights are replaced. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze also commented on the difficulty BART riders are having in <br />trying to get to the Bayfair Mall due to the Target construction efforts. <br /> <br />E. Council Member Loeffler acknowledged staff for the professionalism of the <br />recently published Human Resources Quarterly Newsletter. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commented on the issue of pedestrian safety in San <br />Leandro and proposed that San Leandro needs to explore the possibility of <br />doubling the fine if motorists intimidate pedestrians. He suggested the possibility <br />of posting signs to that effect at the entryways to San Leandro, strongly urging <br />motorists to yield to pedestrians. <br />
