<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Couneil Meeting <br />July 1,2002 <br /> <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />Jerry Glass, 13170 Neptune Dr., addressed the City Council in support of Council <br />Member Santos' appointment <br /> <br />Wafaa Aborashed, 172 Tudor Ave., addressed the City Council indicating she <br />would support the Mayor and Council Member Grant because she does not feel <br />Council Member Santos has stood up for the needs of residents in Davis West. <br /> <br />Francois Gallo, representing NAACSL, addressed the City Council in support of <br />Council Member Santos being the Representative. <br /> <br />Extensive City Council discussion ensued regarding the appointment. The Mayor <br />commented she was offended by comments made by the public that she is not <br />knowledgeable about the issues. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos commented on his involvement with this issue over the <br />years and expressed a desire to serve as the Representative since the major impacts <br />are on District 6. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine expressed the full City Council is passionate about the <br />noise issues as they relate to the Port of Oakland and commended the Mayor on her <br />service as the Representative on this Committee for the City. However, based on <br />his District 6 representation, she expressed her support for Council Member Santos' <br />appointment. <br /> <br />Council Member Grant stated her support for Mayor Young's leadership in the <br />Representative position and Council Member Santos as the Alternate. She stressed <br />her desire to see this work, but if it could not, she indicated she would like to serve <br />as the Alternate. <br /> <br />Council Member Loef11er commented on the progress being made with the Port of <br />Oakland and feels the Airport issue will continue to be a challenge. He added the <br />Mayor has a real passion for the issues as does Council Member Santos. Council <br />Member Loeffler added perhaps it is time to send a message to the Port of Oakland <br />that we are shuming the team and stated his support for Council Member Santos as <br />the Representative and Council Member Grant as the Alternate. <br /> <br />Council Member Badger stated that when the City Council made the detennination <br />that the Mayor should represent the City on this FOnlm, it made sense and that he <br />docs not feel there should be a change. <br /> <br />The Mayor noted if the City Council were to remove the Mayor from the team, the <br />City Council would be sending a very different message to the Noise Management <br />Forum. <br />
