She questioned if any future access road to the property could be named after the Yokota Nursery? Council Member Grant commended the City Attorney and Redevelopment staff for their efforts in resolving this issue, but stated she cannot embrace this concept and would not be supporting this item tonight Vice Mayor Glaze responded that he understands Council Member Grant's comments. He added that the auto mall has been a redevelopment nightmare, but he will be supporting this agreement tonight because it is not eminent domain and this brings closure to the area out there. He noted he doesn't see this as a win-win situation because it results in almost all the original properties that made this City what it was replaced by automobiles. He concluded by acknowledging that it is a sad day, but he will be supporting the Yokota Family in their desire to move on. Council Member Loefller commented that the Council made the choice to work on the vision of an auto mall based on sales tax revcnue. He also noted that there has been pain in the community as we have reconciled ourselves with the use of eminent domain. lIe stated this action is a compromise of his dream and he feels we are losing the image 01' sunshine and flowers in San Leandro. He thanked the Y okotas Cor their patience and indicated he will be supporting the proposed agreement this evening. Council Member Santos concurred with Council Member Nardine and indicated this is neither his program nor his idea, but he feels a need to move on. Mayor Young commented that she supports and understands the comments made by fellow Council Mcmbers and just wants to see closure for the auto mall She pointed out that some of the tax monies Crom the auto mall would go toward parks and recreation in the community The following Resolution was thcn introduced: Resolution No. 2001-9, Resolution of the San Leandro Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Leandro Approving the Purchase and Sale Agreement, Addendum to the Purchase and Sale Agreement, and Escrow Instructions, Between Yokota, Masuda, and Kumabe, et aI., and the San Leandro Redevelopmcnt Agency Cor the Property Located at 467, 505, and 517 Marina Boulevard; Asscssor's Parcel Numbers 075-0087-003-02, 75~ 0087-004-04, and 075-0087-004~06 f(n Redevelopment Purposes Cost: $9,500,000 Funding Source: Private sources [resale proceeds] and SLRA Funds.
