<br />( <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting - July 16,2001 <br /> <br />Page 16 <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine commented that she feels this is a step in the right <br />direction and is glad to see the Redevelopment stafT have a new style. She <br />questioned if any future access road to the property could be named after the <br />Yokota Nursery? <br /> <br />Council Member Grant commended the City Attorney and Redevelopment staff for <br />their efforts in resolving this issue, but stated she cannot embrace this concept and <br />would not be supporting this item tonight <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze responded that he understands Council Member Grant's <br />comments. He added that the auto mall has been a redevelopment nightmare, but <br />he will be supporting this agreement tonight because it is not eminent domain and <br />this brings closure to the area out there. He noted he doesn't see this as a win-win <br />situation because it results in almost all the original properties that made this City <br />what it was replaced by automobiles. He concluded by acknowledging that it is a <br />sad day, but he will be supporting the Yokota Family in their desire to move on. <br /> <br />Council Member Loefller commented that the Council made the choice to work on <br />the vision of an auto mall based on sales tax revcnue. He also noted that there has <br />been pain in the community as we have reconciled ourselves with the use of <br />eminent domain. lIe stated this action is a compromise of his dream and he feels <br />we are losing the image 01' sunshine and flowers in San Leandro. He thanked the <br />Y okotas Cor their patience and indicated he will be supporting the proposed <br />agreement this evening. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos concurred with Council Member Nardine and indicated <br />this is neither his program nor his idea, but he feels a need to move on. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that she supports and understands the comments made <br />by fellow Council Mcmbers and just wants to see closure for the auto mall She <br />pointed out that some of the tax monies Crom the auto mall would go toward parks <br />and recreation in the community <br /> <br />The following Resolution was thcn introduced: <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2001-9, Resolution of the San Leandro Redevelopment <br />Agency of the City of San Leandro Approving the Purchase and Sale <br />Agreement, Addendum to the Purchase and Sale Agreement, and Escrow <br />Instructions, Between Yokota, Masuda, and Kumabe, et aI., and the San <br />Leandro Redevelopmcnt Agency Cor the Property Located at 467, 505, and <br />517 Marina Boulevard; Asscssor's Parcel Numbers 075-0087-003-02, 75~ <br />0087-004-04, and 075-0087-004~06 f(n Redevelopment Purposes Cost: <br />$9,500,000 Funding Source: Private sources [resale proceeds] and SLRA <br />Funds.
