It provides for construction of streetscape improvements including <br />landscaping, irrigation, decorative streetlights in the existing median, and entryway monuments <br />on Doolittle Drive between Adams Avenue and 98th Avenue. <br /> <br />Phase 2 is a sole effort by the City of San Leandro, and provides for construction of streetscape, <br />landscaping and irrigation, similar to Phase 1 on Doolittle Drive between Adams Avenue and <br />Davis Street. <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder, McGuire and Hester, in the amount of <br />$1,920,877 for Phase 1 of the Doolittle Drive Entryway Improvement project. <br /> <br />Staff also recommends award of contract to the low bidder, McGuire and Hester, in the amount <br />of $1,751,530 for Phase 2 of the Doolittle Drive Entryway Improvement project. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />In 2001, an entryway plan between Oakland and San Leandro was developed to improve the <br />common entryway on Doolittle Drive between Davis Street and Airport Drive. An MOU was <br />executed between the cities of Oakland and San Leandro, and the Port of Oakland to fund <br />portions of the project within their respective jurisdictions. <br /> <br />The project includes construction of landscaping, irrigation, improvements to existing medians <br />and entryway monuments along Doolittle Drive, a state highway. Other work items on this <br />cOlTidor include the installation of new streetlights in the medians, relocation of traffic signals in <br />the medians and painting of existing streetlights. <br />
