Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant reported on a recent conference she attended on civic engagement <br />sponsored by ABAG, MTC and other agencies. She shared information on model <br />programs from the cities of Menlo Park and Redwood City. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant noted that both she and Councilmember Gregory plan to attend the <br />ABAG General Assembly meeting on April 19 in San Francisco. <br /> <br />C. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Finance Committee Meeting of March 20,2007. Accepted as revised. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant requested that the recap of the Mayor's Community Fund <br />discussion in the Finance Committee meeting highlights be corrected to accurately <br />capture the discussion. <br /> <br />Mr. Jermanis stated that at no time has the City ever used CDBG funds to cover <br />Council travel to conferences. Also, Mr. Jermanis had suggested that the fund be <br />established for the Mayor and City Council, rather than just for the Mayor. There <br />was also discussion regarding the City Council's Empowerment Funds. Mr. <br />Jermanis indicated that he would work with staff to correct the highlights. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos stated that he has received 12 requests from groups that were <br />previously funded, and he has donated to two of them. He has agreed to auction <br />two City Hall tours and lunch with the Mayor, which he will pay for himself. <br />Mayor Santos indicated that he has written to the other requesters, informing them <br />that the Mayor's Community Fund has been discontinued, and that the City is <br />reviewing the possibly of establishing another donation program. Mayor Santos <br />stated that he did not wish to have the Mayor's Office administer such a program, <br />and he hoped the Finance Committee would take up the matter again. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that the Mayor's position has taken a $750 per month <br />pay cut, he has chosen not to participate in the U.S. Mayors Conference this year, <br />and he has taken other actions to reduce the expenses of the Mayor's office. He <br />noted that the Mayor's Community Fund program created administrative issues <br />for City staff. He has directed organizations requesting donations to apply for <br />community benefit grants, which are reviewed by the Human Services <br />Commission. <br /> <br />2.
