<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting - January 18, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 9 <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Grant commented on the Commemorative Walk by Reverend <br />Anderson over the weekend. She also voiced disappointment that the City did not <br />have any festivities planned to celebrate the Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday. She <br />indicated she would like to see something planned in the future. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Glaze requested the City manager look into the issue of absentee <br />landlords that rent out their homes without much control. He would like to look <br />into what controls or conditions could be placed on single-family residential <br />landlords, as well as landlords of units of 10 apartments or less. <br /> <br />C. Council Member Loeffler requested an updated report on the various City services <br />that are contractual and privatized. He also commented on the. fact that the most <br />recent copy of the City's Investment Report appeared to be more abbreviated than <br />has been in the past. He complimented staff on the "Buzz Around Town" flier and <br />indicated he would like to see some success stories, such as who has donated what <br />items to the library, funds that have been raised, etc. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler also mentioned Proposition 12, the Park Ballot Issue, <br />and indicated if it is successful it will help regional as well as City parks. <br /> <br />The Mayor indicated she has information on this Proposition and will bring a <br />Resolution of Support for Proposition 12 forward for City Council action. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Lothrop reported on her attendance at the Martin Luther King, <br />Jr., event in Walnut Creek. She indicated the festivities were very impressive. She <br />would like to see an event planned for next year in San Leandro and perhaps that <br />issue could be referred to the Mayor's Human Relations Council. <br /> <br />10. CITY MANAGER'S REPORT AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />The City Manager in response to comments made about repealing the Real Estate <br />Property Transfer Tax indicated the revenue from that tax is substantial. He indicated <br />the issue of repealing that tax could be reviewed by the City Council Finance <br />Committee and a recommendation made to the City Council as a whole. <br /> <br />The City Manager also indicated the process by which the City Council Finance <br />Committee will be reporting to the full City Council their review of the DMG Fee <br />Study. <br />
