Page 3 of 3 City/SLUSD Liaison Committee Highlights October 1, 2007
• Relocation of District Administrative Offices
City Manager Jermanis reviewed a possible proposal to place the District's
administrative offices above the City Hall parking lot between Loraine and
Peralta Streets. Such a proposal would free room at Madison School for
classes. Board Vice President Cassidy expressed concerns that this was
not a priority of the District and also inquired as to the planned use of the
Toler lot.
5. Public. Comments
None
6. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Gregory asked if the School District property at the end of Cary
Drive could be converted into a dog park.
Board Vice President Cassidy commented on the misconceptions and news
articles relative to District test scores.
Board Member Hague reminded the Committee of the October 26 Homecoming.
Councilmember Grant expressed a concern that neighbors adjacent to the Stn
Grade Campus did not receive notice of early morning testing of the site, which
had noisy construction. Superintendent Lim related that the District mailed a
notice to adjacent neighbors and would check on this. Councilmember Grant also
stated that she spoke to a high school social justice class on racism and found this
very worthwhile. Councilmember Gregory commented that it would be of value
for other Councilmembers to also speak to classes.
Mayor Santos commented that the School District had to be more proactive in
dealing with at-risk children that are expelled from regular schools. He presented
a letter which was sent to the Alameda County Superintendent and the two
District Superintendents.
By consensus, the next District meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 7
at 4:00 p.m. in the Sister Cities Gallery.
7. Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
