Has(Have) your school district(s) received any recent honors? <br />San Leandro Unilied's Superintendent just received the State Association of School Administrators <br />.Diversity award. <br />High level of San Leandro High School student success, with a high number of honor students and <br />graduates attending public and private universities and two students honored as national. merit finalists <br />last year. <br />San Leandro has one of the most successful and active private scholarship foundations, which yearly <br />provides substantial funding to graduating seniors to attend college. In 2006, the foundation provided <br />roughly ~ 150,000 in scholarships to More than 150 high school graduates. <br />The school has strong drama and fine alts programming, and earlier this year, one of the art students was <br />the winner of Congressional District 13's juried art contest and her art was included in the Congressional <br />Art Competition display in Washington D.C. <br />Briefly characterize area private schools (e.g., religious, preparatory) <br />San Leandro is home to a number of private schools including several lonb established. and highly <br />regarded parochial Elementary Schools (Assumption, St. ~Felicitas and St. Le~ander's) as well as to the <br />Chinese Christian School -which is considered a college prep school, draws students from the entire <br />Bay Area, is one of only a handfiil of schools in the state to receive the Blue Ribbon School Award. - <br />given to schools who demonstrate superior academic performance and has 100 % of its graduates go on <br />to college. <br />What are the major institutions of higher learning in your area? <br />San Leandro is within easy access of major universities such as University of California at Berkeley, <br />Stanford University, University of California at San Francisco as well as Cal State University -East <br />Bay. Chabot College, St. Mary's College, Laney College and Mills College are also nearby. San <br />Leandro houses one of the eight Western Career College campuses, which provide vocational training, <br />as well as a new Adult Education. campus as part of the San Leandro Unified School System. <br />Can you please take some time to describe your school district? <br />San Leandro Unified School District provides comprehensive and innovative programming in an <br />i~lclusive learning environment for all students.
