MINUTES Page 10 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-October 1, 2007 <br />Vice Mayor Grant reported that she attended the Waste Management Authority Board <br />meeting, at which the Board discussed the future siting of a compost disposal site. <br />B. Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br />None. <br />C. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he attended a recent Cal Pac event, similar to the <br />bocce ball event held by the League of California Cities East Bay Division. Councilmember <br />Gregory requested that well-wishes be sent to Katie Lovewell, the substitute teacher who was <br />struck by a pickup truck while riding her scooter. <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented that she spoke this week to the San Leandro High School <br />Academy of Social Justice on the subjects of race and racism. <br />Councilmember Souza announced that today, October 1, is Hola Day, which is a celebration <br />of the understanding and appreciation of language. Councilmember Souza commented on a <br />recent meeting she held with the Mayor at the Floresta Homeowners Association. Over 30 <br />people were in attendance. Councilmember Souza announced that Roosevelt School will be <br />holding awalk-a-thon from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday as part of Walk to School Day. The <br />school needs volunteers for the event, and she urged those interested to show up and help. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she recently visited the ACAP program at Bayfair <br />along with the Mayor and Vice Mayor. She thanked the members of the audience who took <br />the time to share their thoughts and ideas with the Council. <br />Mayor Santos commented that ACAP expressed interested in finding more space, but he was <br />told that the City was precluding them from doing so. <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented that she recently hosted a Town Hall meeting that was very <br />well-attended. About 70 people attended, along with Mayor Santos, Councilmembers <br />Gregory and Prola, the Police Chief, the Fire Chief, and several other staff members. Vice <br />Mayor Grant commented that she has gotten good feedback from the meeting attendees. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she visited the new Jamba Juice in Westgate with <br />her children this weekend. She commented that it is great to have these types of new <br />businesses coming to San Leandro. Councilmember Starosciak commented that the cedar <br />trees near MV Transportation on Westgate Parkway appeared to be dying, and she requested <br />that staff look into the problem. Councilmember Starosciak reported that she attended the <br />School Resource Council meeting at Washington Manor Middle School, and they expressed <br />
