Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Business and Housing Development Committee Meeting of November 8, 2007. <br />Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation for City Council Consideration: <br /> <br /> <br />a. Proceed with the Request for Proposal (RFP) process and negotiations to <br />bring a Farmers Market to Downtown. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola stated that he likes the idea of a Farmers Market, and he <br />described one in San Luis Obispo which is held in the evening. Councilmember <br />Prola commented that he would like to see the Farmers Market located in the area <br />near BART, near where the Cherry Festival was held. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola esign Guidelines <br />and Principles noted that he did not see any <br />language in the document which encourages green building, and he stated that he <br />would like the City to encourage either gold or silver LEED standards. <br /> <br />2. City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />Accepted as submitted. <br />November 7, 2007. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza inquired about the maintenance agreement between the <br />City and School District for the San Leandro High School swimming pool. Mr. <br />Jermanis stated that staff reported to the City and School District Liaison <br />Committee that the cost to the City to maintain the pool was twice the amount the <br />District was paying. The Committee will discuss the renovation of the pool as a <br />possible future joint project. In the interim, the District will look for a service <br />provider that can maintain the pool at a lower cost. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza asked whether the District is planning to expand the size of <br />the pool. Mr. Jermanis indicated that they would like to do a total renovation; <br />however, no expansion of the pool is planned. Councilmember Souza mentioned <br />that the Aquatics Task Force did a study regarding the cost of a total renovation, <br />and she asked if the Committee would be utilizing this information. Mr. Jermanis <br />indicated that staff indings. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak asked if State funding would be sought for the <br />renovations. Mr. Jermanis stated that staff would look into the availability of <br />State funds, and any capital expenditure by the City would come to the City <br />Council for approval. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza expressed concern that two-thirds of the proposed grant for <br />Shape Up San Leandro would be spent on administration.
