Discussion of Committee 2008 Meeting Schedule City Manager Jermanis stated that City staff and Council Representatives were requesting that the School Liaison Committee meet on a bi-monthly (every other month) basis. Part of the reason is that City staff can not turn around information for monthly meetings, and that the City has a number of other committees that also meet. Board Member Cassidy said he understood the time constraint, but thought that the monthly meetings were good in terms of developing a momentum for action. He hoped that that momentum would continue. By consensus, the committee moved to establish a bi-monthly meeting schedule in 2008. 6. Public Comments Leroy Smith voiced his support for the City/District joint efforts on athletic facilities, and suggested that the committee focus on the entire City and school athletic facilities infrastructure. He talked about being able to form aprivate -City -school coalition. Jack Nelson, SLHS Coach also supported renovation of Burrell Field and suggested that a developer would build the stadium, either at the Marina or at Burrell Field. He stated that his group would have a plan by February of 2008. Don Billodeau also supported improved athletic fields, siting Castro Valley, Fremont and Union City as recent examples of community support. He also stated that the Bancroft Field, which is a joint improvement project, is now heavily used and strongly supported. Gerald Shorlin, Bancroft parent, reported that the intersection of Estudillo and Bancroft, adjacent to the middle school, is unsafe for students crossing, particularly in the afternoon. Matter to be referred to City staff. 7. Committee Member Comments Vice Mayor Grant requested that the district produce the Measure B projects current estimated costs and review the role of the oversight committee. She also suggested the Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools (BAYCES. Org) might be a valuable resource for the committee to partner with. Board Member Hague expressed her enthusiasm for working together with the City.
