Federal Funding REquests FY 09 2 February 4, 2008 Davis/880 Interchange - $25 million project ($2.5 million for design); $600,000 allocated FY OS (Stark); no funds received FY 08; Request $2 million (for design) FY 09. Competition Swim Pool (Aquatics Center) - $3 million project; no previous allocation; Request $2.5 million FY 09 (Alternative -request $1 million for SLHS community pool renovation). Public Safety Building Expansion - $2.75 million (project and design); no previous allocation request; Request $2.5 million FY 09. Transit Oriented District (TOD): San Leandro Boulevard/BART design - $250,000 to use for a design study for this area; no previous allocation request; Request $250,000 FI' 09. Marina Dredging - $2.5 million project; $675,000 ($500,000) allocated FY06 (Feinstein); $500,000 earmark FY07 (Feinstein) eliminated; $1,169,000 allocated FY08 (Stark); $831,000 shortfall FY09 (Corp of Engineers scoping project). Regional Projects Senator Feinstein indicates that she will only support "regional" projects. The following projects warrant consideration. East Bay Regional Communications System - $30 million project; no previous allocation request; Request $30 million FY 09. Marina Spine Construction (extension of Bay Trail from Marina Boulevard to Fairway Drive) - $1.5 million project- no previous allocation request; Request $1.5 million FY 09. Bay Trail Improvements (addition of rip rap) - $900,000 project; no previous allocation request; Request $900,000 FI' 09. Other Federal Fund Considerations The following programs were identified by Len Simon as a potential source of federal funds in the future. Staff will continue to develop programs should the funds become available for FY 2008-09. Council may wish to express support for funding of these programs. At Risk Youtb Program (develop a pilot program with the school district to benefit at-risk youth) -Request $500,000 FY 09. Energy Efficiency Slock Grant -Potential source of federal funds for energy efficiency programs and climate protection activities; more research is required to determine if funds will be available for FY 2008-09. COPS Grant -Potential source for luring of police officers may be available to cities; more research is required to determine if funds will be available for FY 2008-09.
