A five-year extension of the
lease through 2013 has been requested by CCT. City Council adoption of a Resolution
Approving Amendment to Lease with CCT is recommended.
BACKGROUND
CCT was founded nearly 30 years ago to provide professional theatrical productions and
performing arts education for the San Leandro community. With volunteer labor, active
fundraising, private financial support, and the assistance of the City, CCT has established itself
as one of the most respected small-venue performing arts organizations in the Bay Area. CCT
has leased the current space since 1980 and has developed a complete theatrical facility with
accessible seating, dressing rooms, a stage, and professional sound and lighting equipment.
CCT is chartered as a nonprofit organization with five officers and arsine-member board of
directors who serve on a voluntary basis. Creative support, production, and management are
provided by a part-time paid artistic director. CCT produces five plays each season.
In exchange for a nominal rent of $1.00 per year, CCT is required to produce a minimum of 50
live theatrical performances during each 12-month period of the lease term. CCT is responsible
for maintaining the leased premises at its own expense and must provide acceptable liability,
personal injury, and worker's compensation insurance coverage. All fixtures, furniture, and
equipment are provided and maintained at the sole expense of CCT and are to be removed upon
termination of the lease.
The City and CCT have agreed upon the following proposed amendments to the current lease:
• A five-year extension of the lease through June 30, 2013
