Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association
Exceptions to City of San Leandro's Request for Proposals:
Page 11
PCFMA takes no exception to any portion of the Request for Proposals as issued by the City of San Leandro. As a
point of clarification, the request for proposals states "no changes in the project team composition will be allowed
without prior written approval of the City of San Leandro." For the purpose of this proposal, PCFMA considers
the entire PCFMA staff to be a part of the project team as various members of the leadership, management team,
and marketing department and a number of market managers will be called upon to assist in recruitment of
producers and the development of marketing and operational strategies. As stated above, PCFMA will ensure that
a member of the PCFMA staff and never a subcontractor is assigned to serve as the market manager for the
Downtown San Leandro Farmers' Market.
We are confident that PCFMA's current salary structure complies with the City's living wage ordinance as all
full-time staff at PCFMA are paid a minimum of $14.50 per hour with fully paid medical and dental insurance,
paid vacation and sick leave, and a 401(k) deferred compensation retirement program that provides an employer
match to employee contributions, subject to vesting.
PCFMA maintains workers compensation insurance for all employees and can provide a certificate of insurance
upon selection to provide services to the City of San Leandro.
PCFMA also provides general liability insurance which names each property owner and contract partner for each
farmers' market as an additional insured. In addition, PCFMA requires all producers that sell within PCFMA's
markets to keep and maintain general liability insurance which names PCFMA as an additional insured.
Conclusions:
The Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association is the largest operator of certified farmers' markets in the state of
California. But while the Board of Directors and staff of PCFMA are justifiably proud of that fact, they are more
proud of the organization's record of success in individual communities all around the Bay Area. Each
community in which PCFMA is present, each farmers' market that PCFMA operates is important and unique.
Only by working in partnership with local community representatives can a farmers' market become an integral
part of the community -successful for California farmers and local shoppers.
PCFMA looks forward to the opportunity to partner with the City of San Leandro and the San Leandro
community to develop the Downtown San Leandro Farmers' Market and support it to achieve its full potential -
as a vibrant marketplace for California farmers and as a point of pride for all of the citizens of San Leandro.
