Green Building Municipal Ordinance 4 May 5, 2008
are provided to the public free of charge. Two public events have been held or are planned: a
homeowner/local builder event in October 2007 and a regional builder/developer event in May
2008.
Fiscal Impact
Certain City projects would be subject to the Ordinance. However, the additional expense related
to first costs in construction of green building projects would be offset by reduced operational
expenses over the lifetime of the City-owned buildings. Additionally, the Import Mitigation
funds provided to the City of approximately $90,000 yearly, are contingent upon the passage of
this ordinance by June 30, 2008.
Budget Authority
Not applicable
Attachments:
Not applicable
CONCLUSION
This ordinance will support the City's goals in energy reduction as well as economic and
environmental help. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt this ordinance to establish a
minimum Silver U.S. Green Building Council LEEDT'" rating for all City projects of renovation
and new construction valued over $3 Million.
