CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: June ] 6, 2008 <br />TO: <br />FROM: <br />BY: <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br />John Jennanis, City Manager <br />Uchenna Udemezue, Director <br />Engineering and Transportatio Department <br />Kenneth Joseph, City Engineer <br />Engineering and Transportation Departmen <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING A CONTRACTUAL SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH KOA <br />CORPORATION RELATED TO THE WASHINGTON AVENUE AND ESTABROOK <br />STREET INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, PROJECT NO.150-28-283 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends award of contractual services agreement to KOA Corporation in the amount <br />of $63,895.00 to provide professional design services and construction support for the subject <br />project. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In November 2006, the State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), through the <br />Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) approved $419,220 in Federal funding for the <br />Washington Avenue and Estabrook Street Intersection Project. <br />This intersection was listed as one of the High Collision Locations according to an analysis <br />report conducted in February 2005. The most distinctive feature of the intersection is the <br />presence of a small right-turn lane island at the southeast corner that houses an electrical pole <br />where a set of traffic signals is mounted. <br />Analysis <br />The project includes design and construction of new signal equipment, signal and intersection <br />reconfiguration, removal of the "pork-chop" island at the southeast conger, relocation of the <br />PG&E pole, sidewalk repair at the southwest corner, curb modification at the southeast corner, <br />and the installation of accessible ramps. The subject project will focus on improvements for <br />pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety at the intersection. <br />Jol Jennanis <br />Cit anager <br />
