Rules and Communications Committee Meeting of June 18, 2008. <br />submitted. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation for City Council Consideration: <br /> <br /> <br />a. Schedule consideration of the revised Community Empowerment Fund <br />Guidelines. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant requested that information also be provided on the <br />guidelines for awarding Youth Mini Grants, Community Benefit Grants and <br />Community Assistance Grants. She expressed concern that there were <br />inconsistencies and a perception of favoritism in the most recent <br />Community Benefit Grant and Community Assistance Grant process. <br />Mayor Santos indicated that this issue would go to the Rules and <br />Communications Committee for discussion. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />b. <br />allowance to $375 per month. <br /> <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza asked for clarification about the issue she raised in <br />her comments at the Rules and Communications Committee meeting <br />regarding the wording of proclamations. She asked whether the City <br />Council would be taking up the matter. Assistant City Attorney Stuart <br />suggested that the item be placed on a future City Council agenda for <br />discussion. There was consensus of the Council to do so. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he and Councilmember Souza, who are both <br />Alameda County Fire Commissioners, attended the recent Firefighter Recruit Academy <br />graduation. He also attended San Leandro Day at the Alameda County Fair, and the ribbon <br />cutting for the new equipment at San Leandro Hospital. <br />Councilmember Grant commented that she also attended the ribbon cutting at San Leandro <br />Hospital. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the Fire Academy graduation with <br />Councilmember Gregory. She and Councilmember Starosciak distributed flyers in their <br />neighborhoods, reminding residents about the ban on fireworks. Councilmember Souza <br />noted that there seemed to be less fireworks activity this year than last year, and she felt that <br />the information and outreach made a difference.
