that there is a great deal of turnover in management positions and that assistant
directors do not stay long and, though skilled, seem to lack dedication.
What is your impression of DSFRC with regards to their ability to implement
strategic plans and meet goals?
Comments ranged from "fair" to "A+", with most respondents admiring the
strategic planning process and its use as an operational guide.
What is your impression of DSFRC in the area of Fundraising (including the quality
of relationships with funding organizations)?
Most Board members described the fundraising abilities of DSFRC as "very
good", though one responded that it was "poor" without further explanation.
Rose Padiila-Johnson and Dawn Valadez were both mentioned several times as
keys to successful fundraising efforts. The Board members that commented on
relationships to funding organizations, see those relationships as strong.
What role do you feel the Board plays in helping DSFRC accomplish its mission?
Responses here varied greatly and included comments that the Board's job was to
help guide and support the agency through fundraising, suggesting strategy and
policy, setting direction and long-term goals, and helping them to remain
financially solvent.
Please describe the Board's strengths.
Again, responses were varied. Answers tended to fall into the categories of
fundraising, bringing DSFRC's mission to the community's awareness, and
supporting the Executive Director.
Please describe the Board's role in fundraising for DSFRC, including a description
of your specific efforts.
Most Board members mentioned the Center's primary fundraising event, Opera
Night, and commented that they support the agency through ticket sales, and also
through their own contributions and by soliciting donations from friends and
contacts. One Board member felt that the Board does not do enough in this area
and unfairly leaves it to the Executive Director.
Please describe the Board's role in capital fundraising for DSFRC, including a
description of the actions you have taken or plan to take in support of this project:
Where can the Board's performance be improved?
Most respondents mentioned that capital fundraising is a new focus for the Center
and that they have not formally launched their support of that campaign, though
the tone of their comments seems to be in full support of the project. A few
Board members have begun to work on strategy and contacting possible donors.
Sustainability Study: Davis Street Family Resource Center - 4/08 Page 22 of 96
