Note: Davis Street Family Resource Center, San Leandro Shelter for Women and Children/Building <br />Futures with Women &Children and tenant/landlord counseling described under the "Decent Housing <br />Goal" are funded under the "Public Services" category. Fair housing services are funded under the <br />"General Administration" category. <br />• The City funded five (5) projects (operated by four (4) agencies) with CDBG funds -- <br />Building Futures with Women and Children (BFWC), Davis Street Family Resource <br />Center (DSFRC), Eden Council for Hope and Opportunity (ECHO), and Project Literacy. <br />Collectively, they provided services to 9,987 low-income persons. These services <br />include emergency housing, provision of food, clothing, childcare, medical care, and job <br />readiness training, fair housing and landlord/tenant counseling, and literacy educational <br />programs. <br />• BFWC's public service activities are reported above already under Priority # 5: <br />"Maintain and improve the current capacity of the housing and shelter system, expanding <br />transitional and permanent supportive housing, and providing services to homeless <br />individuals and families, including integrated health care, employment services and other <br />supportive services." (See page 9.) <br />• DSFRC's Family Support Services Program provides food, shelter, clothing, energy <br />assistance vouchers, motel vouchers, job attainment and retention services, and linkages <br />to long-term assistance such as childcare and health services for low-income families, <br />individuals, and seniors. By providing a holistic safety net, DSFRC helps clients <br />navigate their journey to financial, physical, and mental well-being and reduces the risk <br />of compromising their self-sufficiency. Also, DSFRC provides other essential services, <br />including nutrition education and life skills training, job preparation and placement <br />services, counseling, childcare, free acute medical and dental care, and enrollment in <br />affordable health care plans. Referrals are made to other agencies for specialized services <br />such as housing and additional food resources. Of the 9,089 total unduplicated persons <br />whom DSFRC served, 1,130 were persons with disabilities or special needs, and 2,463 <br />were female heads of households. DSFRC's other achievements included: <br />• 288 families were served each month, totaling 3,458 families served this fiscal <br />year. Case management services were provided to assess each family's needs, <br />and the above-mentioned services were provided accordingly. A total of 9,089 <br />individuals were served as well. <br />• 39,339 meals were provided per month, totaling 472,068 meals over the course of <br />the year. This is a 25% increase over DSFRC's projected goal of 378,000 meals. <br />• 1,899 families maintained their housing for the first three (3) months following <br />the use of basic needs services. <br />• 1,794 families maintained employment after their first month of receiving basic <br />needs services. <br />• 1,667 families receiving comprehensive support services reduced their risk of <br />unemployment and homelessness. <br />Final Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report: FY2007-2008 <br />City of San Leandro <br />Page 13 <br />
