The noise abatement options and work plan are organized under the following
categories:
A. Active Work Plan -these are research orstudy-options, which are currently
under evaluation or are planned for future review and/or analysis. New or
additional options or tasks will be placed in this category once the item is
accepted and authorized by the group membership and the Noise Forum.
B. Noise Abatement Programs -Ongoing -these items are programs or noise
abatement procedures, which have been adopted and are currently in use by the
Port of Oakland and stakeholders involved with the aircraft noise abatement
program for the North Field. -This list will also provide any appropriate status
information or documentation deemed helpful for maintaining program
awareness.
C. Inactive Noise Abatement Concepts/Options -these items are projects or
tasks, which are not on-going but are those which are presumed to be inactive or
are one-time tasks that have been completed to the extent possible. These
items may be held in abeyance until further additional work is required by the
Port of Oakland and/or the stakeholders. If necessary, these items may be
reconsidered in the future.
~/ D. Options Not Deemed Appropriate for Further Consideration -these are
items or options, which were primarily developed during the initial brainstorming
efforts when the North Field Research Group was formed in 1997/98, These
items will no longer be considered viable for additional research or further action.
Any similar items, which may be proposed in the future, will be categorized under
this section when appropriate action is necessary.
Section A. Active Work Plan
Jet Departure Restriction Noise Reduction on Davis West
A recommendation has been accepted to evaluate the noise reduction affects of
restricting turbojet departures off Runway 27R/L to determine the amount of aircraft
noise that would be transferred to the Davis West neighborhood if the procedure
was removed from the noise abatement program for the North Field.
2. Use 180 Degree Headings for Runway 09R Departures
The right turn departure procedure from Runway 09R to the 140 degree heading
has been an effective program for reducing noise on San Leandro. A
recommendation has been accepted to enhance the procedure in order to
minimize flights over the Neptune Drive area of San Leandro. This concept would
extend the right turn departures up to a 180 degree heading so aircraft would not
fly over the Neptune Drive area of San Leandro.
3. Pilot Awards Program
A recommendation has been made by the Noise Forum to develop a pilot awards
program associated with the North Field aircraft noise abatement program to
provide incentives for aircraft pilots to follow the voluntary noise abatement
procedures.
NFRG Options Review 2008.doc Rev. 6/3/2008 Page 2 of 7
